I designed the Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP Tribal Edition in 2004. Without a doubt the most widely distributed and international project I ever worked on as an illustrator. Seeing hundreds of them on the shelves of shopping centres was a great satisfaction, but back then I never imagined it would one day become an object capable of generating such interest among enthusiasts of this iconic Nintendo console.
Recently one of them, who runs a YouTube channel dedicated to Nintendo products, contacted me for an interview, eager to learn more about my collaboration with Leo Burnett on the creation of the Tribal Game Boy. From that conversation he produced a video summarising our discussion, albeit with a few inaccuracies. Happy to share it with you here.
By the way, when people ask me if I have ever tattooed anyone famous, I can proudly say that I have tattooed Super Mario, the twenty-second most famous person in the world. 😁
