To be honest, I don’t exactly remember the meaning behind this tattoo. Probably something to do with the strength to carry on and enjoy yourself in spite of difficulties. Hence the title, taken from a famous book.
I really enjoyed drawing this tattoo. The flames below the Pierrot also set fire to the postcard from which both the arm and the umbrella protrude, creating multiple levels of observation.
One of my most successful tattoos in its simplicity, where I fully applied the graphic language of comics, with some deliberate simplifications that help tell the image. The highlights that the flames cast on the figure make the character’s anatomy even easier to read.
Although it’s a small to medium sized tattoo, I’m very proud of what I managed to accomplish in such a limited space. Probably because it connects to my past and my love for comics. 😀
