Frankenstein and The Bride of Frankenstein belong to the so-called Universal Monsters universe, figures who are now part of the popular imaginary.

During this on-going lockdown and with my studio closed I’m dedicating myself to personal projects, both to stay in practice and for personal pleasure.

Many artists have ventured into the reinterpretation of these characters, but I had never done it, neither as an illustrator nor as a tattoo artist, so it seemed like a good idea, but to be honest the idea of trying my hand at this fan art is not entirely mine.

I was thinking of drawing a pin-up and I asked my girlfriend what kind of clothing I could use, instead she suggested I try drawing some Universal Monsters.

So I came up with the idea of Frankenstein and his bride on a motorbike, with helmets in the shape of their heads.

A cylindrical helmet for him and an elongated helmet with decorations that recall the white hair streaks for her. An original idea that made both me and my girlfriend laugh.

So the following day I dedicated myself to this project. It was meant to be much more caricatured than how it eventually turned out, but it’s still a fun illustration of which you can see the time lapse with commentary below.

My girlfriend was so thrilled that we printed it, framed it and hung it in her study.

All I need to do now is find the next inspiration 🙂
