Between 2000 and 2001 I made a short film for a competition that unfortunately ended up being canceled. The aim of the competition was to create a Flash animation with a duration comprised between 3 and 6 minutes, that was artistic, potentially expandable and subsequently marketable with the contribution of other creatives. I came up with the idea of creating a sort of animation in which at a certain point in the story the user was able to change the course of events, changing character or situation. The project was developed with several swf files that loaded dynamically, both to have blocks of story available on demand and to maintain a smooth animation even with a slow internet connection. Within the animation there could have been the possibility to place commercial products, event banners etc. by clicking on which one could access further information and maybe purchase them. Even though it’s been more than 15 years since the project was created I still consider it an innovative idea. It’s such a pity that this competition and that Flash technology in general have gone down in flames 🙁
However, I decided not to give up and proceeded anyway. I set myself to create a 30-minute short film but I was overly optimistic. In 2004 I created a website dedicated to this project but I had nor the time nor the strength to do it all by myself. In these last few days, probably due to a little nostalgia, I’ve decided to convert to video all the work done then. Music is by maestro Damiano Rota, everything else was done by me. Happy viewing 😉
