This biomech design was created in 2018 for a tutorial on my working method, commissioned by a well-known US company. It was designed for an arm and, being a tutorial that would be distributed worldwide, I poured all my technique into and devoted a lot of time to the project. Back then, it sparked a lot of interest, but no one asked to get it tattooed.
Adapting the Design
In January 2021, a guy from Mantua contacted me, eager to get a biomechanical tattoo on his leg.
I showed him my collection of designs, and when he saw this one, he fell in love with it. I had to make some adjustments to adapt it to his leg, which was relatively simple: the buttock replaced the shoulder and the knee the elbow.
Challenges and Delays in the Process
Unfortunately, he had a tattoo on his calf that interfered with the design. So we agreed to proceed with laser removal on the old tattoo and start working on the new one while he went through the process. Sadly, the project, in addition to relatively short sessions, suffered several slowdowns due to a string of unfortunate events: the client underwent surgery on his Achilles tendon after an injury, then faced a layoff, followed by a less lucrative new job, and finally a couple of car accidents. Half-joking, but not entirely, I suggested an exorcism or at least a priest’s blessing.
The Final Outcome: A Spectacular Tattoo
Luckily, after all those setbacks, the work picked up again briskly. Too bad he waited until the final sessions to finish removing the old tattoo—something he could have done during the breaks—forcing me to wait several months before wrapping it up. Despite all these ups and downs, the final result is absolutely spectacular. Even if I don’t love mechanical elements in biomech designs as much anymore, I have to admit this is probably one of the best I’ve ever done. It was a slow, grueling process – over four years from start to finish – but as they say: the best things in life are the ones that demand the greatest sacrifice.
Here below you will find pictures and video of the working process, and a video with the final result, one month after healing.
